This report is based on an unprecedented study of engagement among more than 47,000 employees in 120 countries around the world during 2009 and 2010. The overall results indicate that 11% of workers worldwide are engaged. In other words, about one in nine employees worldwide are emotionally connected to their workplaces and feel they have the resources and support they need to succeed. The majority of workers, 62%, are not engaged — that is, emotionally detached and likely to be doing little more than is necessary to keep their jobs. And 27% are actively disengaged, indicating they view their workplaces negatively and are liable to spread that negativity to others. This report reveals the powerful relationships between employees' engagement at work, their productivity, and their personal well-being.
