  • Learn how themes form the core of CliftonStrengths and how to understand and appreciate your own -- and others' -- strengths, as we focus on Woo.

On a recent episode of Theme Thursday Season 1, we took an in-depth look at the Woo theme and spoke with Gallup Senior Education Program Manager JerLene Mosley. JerLene supports schools and school districts in selecting outstanding teachers and staff members and provides strengths-based development to staff and students.

People with strong Woo talents bring energy to social situations. They can connect with others and act as catalysts in helping people connect with one another. They have an exceptional ability to draw others out of their shell.

Woo is an acronym for Winning Others Over. People who have high Woo are not afraid to start conversations with strangers. They typically have a large network of friends and acquaintances, as they thrive on getting to know as many people as possible. About 13% of individuals who have completed the CliftonStrengths assessment have Woo as one of their Top 5 strengths.

JerLene jokes about how instead of getting in trouble for talking too much in school, she now gets paid to do it at work. She says she will often go out of her way to greet people and make a connection, adding, "If I see you in my sight, I must greet you."

She also has Individualization in her Top 5, which helps her make conversation decisions. Whether riding an elevator with someone or sharing a row in an airplane, JerLene uses her Individualization theme to determine if an individual would welcome a cheerful greeting, or if that person would rather be left alone. This combination of strengths is key to her making positive impressions on those around her.

To learn more about the Woo theme and how people like JerLene use it in their everyday lives, watch the full video above.

JerLene Mosley's Top 5 CliftonStrengths are Individualization, Communication, Positivity, Activator, and Woo.
