- Learn the importance of partnerships to your relationships with your colleagues and clients, including the role of complementary CliftonStrengths.
On a recent Called to Coach: Australia edition, we spoke with Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach Charlotte Blair.
After completing her coaching course and certification in early 2014, Charlotte began meeting regularly with some of the colleagues from her class cohort. They discussed strengths coaching and training, and in particular they wanted strengths to be a bigger part of their lives. Charlotte explained that she had been using strengths coaching intermittently, but it was not part of her day-to-day work.
As she thought more about it, Charlotte ruminated on her favorite quote: "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams and live the life you've imagined." This gave her the confidence to take action. About a year after she became a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach, Charlotte quit her corporate job and formed a partnership with her cohort colleagues called, "The Strengths Partners." Charlotte believes partnership is at the core of her relationship with her colleagues and with the people she coaches. She says strengths are most alive when partnering with others that have complementary strengths.
While speaking with Charlotte, she gave an example of one of the many success stories she experienced from her time with The Strengths Partners. One of her clients was relying too much on some of her Top 5 strengths -- Achiever and Responsibility in particular -- which was causing burnout at work. Charlotte helped her to realize this overreliance and introduced this client to the rest of her 34 strengths. Charlotte had to diligently negotiate with the client to stop focusing on her bottom strengths and instead focus on her Top 10. After changing that client's perspective, Charlotte stated that the client became more engaged at work and achieved a better work-life balance.

Charlotte Blair's Top 5 CliftonStrengths are Activator, Woo, Command, Arranger and Positivity.
