Nearly All Americans Consider Military Service “Patriotic”

Nearly two-thirds of Americans (62%) say serving in the U.S. military reveals “a great deal” about one’s patriotism. Older Americans and the less educated are among those more likely to say the same about wearing the American flag pin or saying the pledge of allegiance.

Gallup Daily: Obama 47%, McCain 43%

The race for president remains “steady as she goes,” with Barack Obama maintaining a modest 47% to 43% advantage over John McCain among registered voters in the June 30-July 2 Gallup Poll Daily tracking results.

As Independents Shrink, Democrats Gain

Typical of previous presidential election years, the proportion of political independents in Gallup Poll surveys (now 36%) has declined since last fall (when it was 40%), and is likely to go even lower before Election Day. So far, Democrats have gained.

Hispanic Voters Solidly Behind Obama

Gallup Poll Daily tracking surveys conducted in June find Hispanic registered voters favoring Barack Obama over John McCain for president by 59% to 29%. Vote preference among Hispanics does not vary by demographics such as gender and education, as it does among the broader electorate.

Americans Worry McCain Would Be Too Similar to Bush

Two in three Americans are concerned that John McCain would pursue policies that are too similar to those of George W. Bush, including 49% who are “very concerned.”
